The ACIGAMES Association, Commercial, Industrial and Cultural Games, today announced their actions to protest the high taxes in Brazil for games and consoles, with the launch of the Fair Play Day – Phase II, an event that takes place at the Federation of Trade Sao Paulo and many shops affiliated to the association, the next day May 21.
The event is divided into two specific areas of action: the dissemination to the media and protest against the national taxes, which aims to alert the public about the high levels of tax rates applied to the electronic entertainment, said the statement posted on its site the association.
“Fair Play Day, a promotion is not to sell games,” said Moacyr Alves, businessman and president of the association. “The ACIGAMES distributors and retailers managed to unite in protest, and even failing to win, everyone agrees to participate in protest against taxes and strengthen the national market,” notes Moacyr.
“I’d rather lose a little now and to grow the market, rather than leaving piracy as it is in the country,” agrees Mark Khalil, associate director of network UZGames and vice president of the institution.
With the motto “the game is free, you only pay the tax”, the initiative indicates how Moacyr and his associates intend to carry out the national protest. “If we get the government to lower taxes, the games will be cheaper and this will help the market,” said the manager, who conceived the Fair Play for about two years.
“Only the tax burden for the games is the order of 123% of the value of the product,” said Mark Chien, legal director of the institution. “For the islands, the total is even higher and can reach 140%, only to nationalize the product, not including marketing costs and, of course, the financial return of the operation.”
The association explains that the stores receive their affiliates negotiated with distributors and games, so they can sell cheaper. “The ACIGAMES not get a penny from this activity. We want to grow the gaming market and win-win, even the government, which ends up raising more, “emphasizes Moacyr. “After the first day of fair play, we see many promotions of games cheaper. This shows that there is an untapped market here, “he concludes.
On the day of the event, and marketing of games in stores, the association will make an official presentation with information about his lectures and cultural projects.
